Description
LARGE APULIAN RED-FIGURE BELL KRATER WITH OFFERING SCENES Ca. 400 - 300 BC. A red-figure bell krater with a flared foot, slender stem, deep body, broad everted rim, and upturned handles set below the lip. The rim is decorated with a laurel band. The figured panels are framed by palmettes and scrolling tendrils, with a narrow band below. Side A depicts two draped female figures flanking a beribboned central stele, both presenting offerings towards it, with added white and yellow details for the fillets, jewellery, and architectural ornament. Side B depicts a second offering scene with two female figures beside a central stele, one with a phiale and a jug, the other with a mirror. For similar see: A.D. Trendall, A. Size: 370mm x 360mm; Weight: 3.4kg Provenance: Private London collection; acquired in France (early 2000s); previously in a Swiss private collection formed during the 1980sÐ1990s.
