Description
APULIAN RED-FIGURE BELL KRATER WITH LADIES OF FASHION BY THE CIRCLE OF PHRIXOS GROUP - TL TESTED Ca. 350 BC.
A bell krater with a broad flaring mouth, deep body tapering to a short stem and spreading foot, and a pair of horizontal loop handles below the rim. Large palmettes and scrolling tendrils occupy the zones beneath the handles, with a wave pattern encircling the lower body and a laurel band below the rim. Side A depicts the profile head of a lady of fashion wearing a sakkos, earrings and a beaded necklace. Side B shows a standing female in a belted chiton, holding a large box in her right hand and a wreath in her left hand. For similar see: The red-figured vases of Apulia / by A.D.
