Description
LARGE GREEK BRONZE SHIELD WITH MEDALLIONS Ca. 500 BC.
A large bronze shield with a shallow convex circular body and wide rim. The central boss is encircled by a gilded medallion with concentric relief rings and a wave border. Five smaller raised bosses are arranged around it, each framed by concentric circular mouldings. The rim is decorated with a stamped spiral pattern. The reverse is plain, with a broad inturned edge and recessed centre. Accompanied by a modern custom-made display stand. For similar see: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Object Number: 21.88.111.
