VERY RARE COMPLETE BOEOTIAN BRONZE HELMET Ca. 300 - 200 BC. A bronze Boeotian helmet with a deep hemispherical skull and a broad, downward-sloping brim, its profile derived from the petasos, the wide-brimmed hat widely worn in ancient Greece. The brim projects over the forehead and extends laterally into pointed lobes. At the rear, it broadens into a substantial neck guard, with a row of attachment holes along the margins for a lining. The open construction leaves the face unobstructed and provides a wide field of vision, qualities that explain the particular association of the Boeotian type with cavalry.
