ETRUSCAN 'BATILLUM' WITH LION-SHAPED HANDLE Ca. 500 - 300 BC.
A cast bronze batillum with a rectangular blade bordered by lateral flanges and bands of stamped ornament. The long handle is encircled by evenly spaced ribs and terminates in a lion protome with incised mane, open mouth and extended forelegs. For similar lion see: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Object Number: 2021.40.44, 00.13.6.
