ROMAN MARBLE HEAD OF ARES BORGHESE TYPE Ca. AD 1 - 200. A marble head of Ares of Borghese type, wearing a close-fitting helmet with a high rounded crown and a broad band above the brow. The youthful face is compactly carved, with heavy lids, a straight nose and a softly modelled mouth. Accompanied by a modern custom-made display stand. For similar see: Louvre Museum, Inv: 010279164. Size: 100mm x 70mm; Weight: 1.32kg Provenance: From a private UK collection; earlier purchased on the London art market in the 1980s.
