EASTERN ROMAN MARBLE HEAD OF APOLLO BELVEDERE TYPE Ca. AD 200. A marble head of Apollo of Belvedere type, with the hair arranged in thick, deeply carved locks. The curls are swept back from the forehead and gathered into a central knot, with further locks framing the temples and ears. The youthful face has a straight nose, heavy-lidded eyes, full lips and a softly modelled jaw. For similar see: Musei Vaticani, inv. no. 1015.
