CHINESE TERRACOTTA FIGURE OF A SOGDIAN - TL TESTED Tang Dynasty, Ca. AD 618 - 907. A moulded terracotta figure depicting a standing Sogdian attendant or entertainer, modelled in an animated pose with the head turned slightly upwards and the hands held before the body. The figure is dressed in a fitted, long-sleeved tunic, secured at the waist by a belt, over a shorter garment and high boots. The face is particularly expressive, with full cheeks, prominent features and a lively open-mouthed expression, while the dark hair is gathered at the back of the head. Size: 570mm x 210mm; Weight: 5.96kg Provenance: UK private collection; formerly acquired in the early 1990s in Hong Kong.
