SASANIAN BRONZE JUG WITH STAG-SHAPED HANDLE Ca. AD 400 - 500. A bronze jug with a spreading foot, biconical body, tall flaring neck, and everted rim. A ribbed collar encircles the base of the neck. The arched handle is modelled as a stag, with the forelegs joining the rim and the elongated body extending down to the shoulder. The head is finely cast with large ears, almond-shaped eyes, and branching antlers. Size: 235mm x 130mm; Weight: 615g Provenance: Private UK collection; formerly H.G. collection; acquired from A. Kotllar, Paris, French art market, 1970Ð2006. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
