ROMAN CHARIOT FITTING WITH PANTHERS Ca. AD 1 - 300.
A bronze chariot fitting with a tapering rectangular body on a stepped base. From its lower sides emerge two long horn-like arms, curving upwards towards a fluted baluster-shaped finial. A pair of confronted panthers stand above the arms, their forepaws resting against the finial. Each is modelled with an elongated body, raised head and open jaws.

Provenance: Private UK collection; previously part of an Oxfordshire ancient art collection; acquired from a Canadian collection formed between the 1970s and 2000.
