Description
ROMAN TERRA SIGILLATA LAGYNOS Ca. AD 200 - 400 .
A mould-made terracotta lagynos with a biconical body, cylindrical neck and flaring mouth. The lower body is decorated with a rosette of 20 petals, and the shoulder with a continuous relief frieze of horsemen in motion. A human face is modelled in relief on the front of the neck. A vertical strap handle joins the neck to the shoulder. For similar see: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Object Number: AFB.429.
