BYZANTINE BONE PLAQUE WITH BLESSING CHRIST Ca. AD 900 - 1100. A rectangular bone plaque carved in relief with Christ standing beneath a halo, his right hand raised in blessing and his left hand supporting a book. The Greek abbreviations IC and XC, for Jesus Christ, are placed to either side of his head. The plaque is mounted on a rectangular bronze backplate, which is secured to the carving by metal pins at the corners. For similar see: The British Museum, Registration number 1890,0217.1.
