BRONZE AGE BRONZE HORSE BIT WITH FIGURAL CHEEKPIECES Ca. 1200 - 800 BC. A bronze horse bit with a straight mouthpiece and openwork cheekpieces. Each cheekpiece is cast with a hybrid creature composed of a central human-headed torso, flanked by another human-headed beast on one side and a lion attacking from the other. The flanking figures have animal lower bodies standing on an integral bar. For similar see: The British Museum, Museum number 123276. Size: 195mm x 120mm; Weight: 400g Provenance: Private UK collection; previously part of an Oxfordshire ancient art collection; acquired from a Canadian collection formed between the 1970s and 2000.
