Description
MESOPOTAMIAN RED STONE BULL AMULET Uruk period, Ca. 3300 - 2800 BC. A red stone amulet carved as a recumbent bull, with the legs folded beneath the body and the head turned to the side. The broad body is rounded at the haunch and cut with linear grooves for the legs and shoulder. The head has short horns, round inlaid eyes, and a tapering muzzle. A vertical perforation passes through the back for suspension. For similar see: The British Museum, Museum number 120973. Size: 80mm x 75mm; Weight: 155g Provenance: From a private UK collection; previously held by I.H., whose collection was assembled from the 1970s onwards. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
