MESOPOTAMIAN BANDED STONE BIRD STAMP SEAL Uruk period, Ca. 3000 - 2500 BC. A banded stone stamp seal carved as a bird in profile, with an arched back and a small head with a circular eye and short beak. The legs are reduced to block-like supports beneath the body. On the sealing face are nine drill-cut bovine figures scattered across the field. For similar see: The British Museum, Museum number 122865. Size: 65mm x 50mm; Weight: 50g Provenance: From a private UK collection; previously held by I.H., whose collection was assembled from the 1970s onwards. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
