MESOPOTAMIAN STONE PYXIS WITH MASTER OF ANIMALS Ca. 2600 - 2400 BC.
A stone pyxis with a tall cylindrical body, thick rounded rim, deep interior, and flat circular base. The exterior is carved in low relief with a master of animals scene, centred on a frontal figure flanked by rearing beasts. Further animals and stylised trees fill the surrounding field.
