GANDHARAN STONE FIGURE OF ATLAS Ca. 2nd - 4th century AD. A carved figure depicting the muscular figure of Atlas seated in a dynamic pose, with one leg folded beneath him and the other raised. The bearded figure is shown bare-chested, his powerfully modelled torso articulated with a broad chest and defined musculature. His head is crowned by thick, wavy locks, while the face is characterised by prominent eyes, a broad nose and a full curling beard. Size: 265mm x 220mm; Weight: 6.02kg Provenance: From a private UK collection; formerly in the S.S. collection, assembled from the 1970s onwards. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
