GANDHARAN SILVER PYXIS WITH NIKE-APSARA Ca. 100 BC - AD 100. A silver pyxis with a cylindrical body and a fitted lid surmounted by a spherical knop set with rosette-shaped mounts of lobed petals. Around the body are winged Nike-Apsara figures in relief, each with a belted garment, spread wings, and prominent breasts, between beaded borders at the rim and foot. The interior base is decorated in relief with a seated figure surrounded by two attendants within a circular field. Size: 80mm x 80mm; Weight: 115g Provenance: Private UK collection; formerly H.G. collection; acquired from A. Kotllar, Paris, French art market, 1970Ð2006.
