Description
COLLECTION OF CHINESE TERRACOTTA DANCING LADIES Tang Dynasty, Ca. AD 618 - 907 or later.
A collection of three moulded terracotta figures depicting female court attendants standing in composed frontal poses. Each is dressed in a long, flowing robe falling to the feet, with the hands held together before the chest in a gesture of respectful attendance. The garments are modelled with overlapping folds and incised details suggesting the layered textiles and sashes characteristic of Tang-period dress.

Provenance: UK private collection of Asian Art; formerly acquired in the early 1990s in Hong Kong.
