PAIR OF GREEK TERRACOTTA LION FOREPART APPLIQUES Ca. 500 - 300 BC.
A pair of terracotta appliques, each modelled as the forepart of a lion with an upright chest and raised head. The face has deeply recessed eyes, rounded ears and a broad muzzle with prominent whisker pads. Dense incised curls form the mane and descend across the chest. Each tapering body has a circular fixing hole through the side.

Provenance: From a central London private collection; earlier acquired on the UK art market before 2000.
