RARE VIKING SILVER-INLAID BRONZE PHOENIX-SHAPED BROOCH Ca. AD 700 - 1000. A silver-inlaid bronze brooch in the shape of a phoenix standing in profile to the right. The head with a pointed beak is surmounted by an elaborate openwork crest. Incised feathers decorate the body, and the broad tail extends behind. The legs end in curved talons. Size: 40mm x 35mm; Weight: 10g Provenance: Private collection of a Cambridgeshire gentleman; formerly with Allison Barker, 1990sÐ2007.
