PAIR OF SELJUK SILVER-INLAID PORTABLE INKWELLS Ca. AD 1000 - 1200.
A pair of silver-inlaid bronze portable inkwells, each with a hinged spherical body divided into two hemispherical compartments. One half encloses a recessed ink reservoir with a central circular opening, and the opposing half serves as a fitted lid. The exteriors are engraved with central rosettes surrounded by scrolling foliage.
Size: 49-51mm x 35-39mm; Weight: 170g
Provenance: From a private London collection; earlier present on the French art market in the 1980s.
