Description

URARTIAN BRONZE JUG WITH LION-SHAPED SPOUT Ca. 1000 - 800 BC. A bronze jug with a globular body on a spreading foot, a tall funnel-shaped neck, and a broad everted rim. From the shoulder projects a lion-head spout with open jaws, modelled mane, and long curved neck. At the rear, a high arched handle joins the rim to the shoulder. The lower attachment is cast with a stylised mask beneath the handle. Size: 250mm x 240mm; Weight: 1.7kg Provenance: Private UK collection; formerly H.G. collection; acquired from A.
