EGYPTIAN GOLD RING WITH CARNELIAN SCARAB WITH KING AS BULL MOTIF. New Kingdom, Ca. 1550 - 1069 BC. A gold ring with a twisted hoop and a swivel setting with beaded collars and wire bindings at the junctions. Mounted with a carnelian scarab carved with a schematic head, a broad thorax, and undivided elytra. The flat underside is engraved with a king as a bull trampling a fallen enemy depicted as a skeleton, with a hawk at the side and the throne name cartouche of the king above the bull's back. Size: D:16.71mm / US: 6 1/4 / UK: M; Weight: 6.6g Provenance: London private collection; Paris acquisition; ex Montpellier private collection, 1970s–1990s.
