EGYPTIAN GOLD WINGED SCARAB. Late Period–Ptolemaic Period. Ca. 664–30 B.C. A gold applique of a winged scarab in three parts, comprising a scarab beetle and two separately made wings. The beetle has a rounded body, a small head, a plain thorax, and a vertically ribbed wing case. The outspread wings are decorated in repousse with two curved rows of short vertical lines. The reverse is flat and plain. For similar see: The MET, Museum Number: 25.5.1a–c Size: 60-75mm x 30-45mm; Weight: 16g Provenance: Private London collection; ex private family collection, established mid-20th century and continued until 2000. The XRF analyses performed demonstrate that the compositional profile of the metal is consistent with, and technically compatible with, documented metallic compositions of objects from the attributed historical period, thereby providing substantial material support for the object’s authenticity.This piece is accompanied by a statement from Lisa Sartini, Egyptologist PHD of Chimera Heritage Consultants. This item has been checked against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
