SUPERB HELLENISTIC AMETHYST INTAGLIO OF A RULER AS ALEXANDER THE GREAT IN GOLD RING.
Ca. 200 - 1 BC. An amethyst intaglio engraved with the profile bust of a ruler depicted as Alexander the Great, with upswept hair and draped shoulders, set in a possibly later gold ring with a rounded hoop tapering towards the back. Size: D:18.54mm / US: 8 1/2 / UK: Q 1/2; Weight: 8.3g Provenance: Private London collection; previously in an Austrian private collection dating to the 1980s–early 1990s. This item has been checked against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
