MATCHED PAIR OF GREEK GOLD EARRINGS WITH ZOOMORPHIC FINIALS. Ca. 450 - 250 BC. A matched pair of gold earrings, each formed as a tapering hoop wrapped with fine wire and terminating in a sculptural zoomorphic head with the horns curving backwards over the crown. The head is modelled with a squared muzzle, circular eyes, a broad ribbed collar, and applied ornamental details in filigree and granulation. Beneath the chin is a small loop through which the tapering end passes to close the earring. For similar see: Christie's, Live Auction 1735, Ancient Jewelry, Lot 237. This piece is accompanied by a historical report from Alessandro Neri, an international Cultural Heritage expert based in Florence, Italy.
