COLLECTION OF GREEK GOLD IBEX AND FLOWER-SHAPED APPLIQUES.
Ca. 800 - 300 BC. A collection of six gold appliques, including, from top left: four appliques, each modelled as a recumbent ibex with swept horns and detailing to the head, shoulder, and haunch, with four tubular loops to the reverse for attachment; a square-shaped gold applique decorated in repousse with a central boss surrounded by four teardrop-shaped petals in a cruciform arrangement, with four ribbed almond-shaped motifs set diagonally between them; and a circular applique with a repousse frontal bust. Size: 15-28mm x 15-18mm; Weight: 7.2g Provenance: Private London collection; previously part of a distinguished New York private collection, assembled between 1975 and 1995. The collection was authenticated in the early 1990s by Dr. Jack Ogden and Barbara Deppert Lippitz, leading specialists in ancient jewellery. A significant number of objects from this collection were also published in a professional catalogue. This item has been checked against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
