MATCHED PAIR OF HELLENISTIC GOLD IBEX-HEADED EARRINGS. Ca. 200 - 100 BC. A matched pair of gold earrings, each formed as a tapering twisted hoop with a hooked end at one side and an ibex head terminal at the other, set above a cylindrical collar decorated with filigree. The heads are modelled with backwards-swept horns, projecting ears, and deep, rounded eyes. For similar see: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Object Number: 35.6.4. Size: 18-18mm x 16-17mm; Weight: 4.2g Provenance: Private London collection; previously part of a distinguished New York private collection, assembled between 1975 and 1995. The collection was authenticated in the early 1990s by Dr. Jack Ogden and Barbara Deppert Lippitz, leading specialists in ancient jewellery. A significant number of objects from this collection were also published in a professional catalogue. This item has been checked against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
