SUPERB ROMAN GREEN STONE INTAGLIO OF A GRYLLOS IN GOLD RING.
Ca. AD 1 - 300.
A dark green intaglio engraved with a gryllos composed of the profile head of a youth surmounted by a helmet with a radiate crest formed of two conjoined masks of bearded Silenus looking in opposite directions, with a small mask below the neck at the front and another at the back. The intaglio is set in a possibly later gold ring with a broad, rounded hoop and an oval bezel with a plain mount.

Provenance: From a private London collection; earlier circulating on the Netherlands art market in the 1980s.
