Description
ROMAN CARNELIAN CAMEO BUST OF MINERVA IN GOLD RING.
Ca. AD 100 - 200. A carnelian cameo carved with the head of Minerva in profile, wearing a crested helmet, set in a possibly later gold ring with a circular scalloped bezel, angular shoulders with raised V-shaped motifs, and a carinated hoop. Cutting collection, Cambridge (1980s–early 2000s). The XRF analyses performed demonstrate that the compositional profile of the metal is consistent with, and technically compatible with, documented metallic compositions of objects from the attributed historical period, thereby providing substantial material support for the object’s authenticity. This item has been checked against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
