SUPERB ROMAN SOLID GOLD RING OF A GOD HUNTING A WILD BOAR. Ca. AD 1 - 100. A gold ring with a slender hoop expanding sharply at the shoulders to a broad oval bezel engraved with a mounted god riding to the left, his horse in full stride and the god holding a raised spear, above a wild boar running in the same direction. For similar scene see: The British Museum, Museum number 2010,5006.1072. Size: D:20.78mm / US: 11 1/8 / UK: W; Weight: 21g Provenance: From a London private collection; earlier part of a UK ancient art collection formed in the 1990s. The XRF analyses performed demonstrate that the compositional profile of the metal is consistent with, and technically compatible with, documented metallic compositions of objects from the attributed historical period, thereby providing substantial material support for the object’s authenticity. This item has been checked against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
