BYZANTINE GOLD CROSS PENDANT WITH GARNET AND PEARLS. Ca. AD 500 - 700. A gold cross pendant with flaring arms centred by a garnet in a raised circular mount. Small rounded projections flank each arm. Three arms terminate in loops with pearl drops, with a suspension loop above. For similar see: J. Spier, Byzantium and the West, Jewelry of the first millennium, Cat. 14. Size: 34mm x 23mm; Weight: 3.6g Provenance: Private London collection; acquired in France (early 2000s); previously in a Swiss private collection formed during the 1980s–1990s.
