BYZANTINE HIGH KARAT GOLD CROSS PENDANT WITH PALM BRANCHES. Ca. AD 600 - 800. A gold cross pendant formed of four joined circular lobes. The obverse is decorated with a symmetrical design of stylised palmettes and foliate scrolls arranged around a central cross motif, all within a hatched border. A rolled suspension loop is attached above. The reverse is plain. For similar see: The British Museum, Museum number 1924,1006.39. Size: 40mm x 35mm; Weight: 4g Provenance: Private London collection; acquired in France (early 2000s); previously in a Swiss private collection formed during the 1980s–1990s.
