Description
BYZANTINE GOLD ARMLET WITH CENTRAL TURQUOISE.
Ca. AD 1000.
An armlet made from sheet gold folded into a hollow tapering hoop with alternating ribs and ropework bands. The front section is decorated with scrollwork and filigree panels leading to a central bezel set with a turquoise cabochon in a raised mount. Four domed elements surround the stone, with further granulation and twisted wire detail.
