MIDDLE BABYLONIAN OR KASSITE REDDISH STONE CYLINDER SEAL WITH A BIRD-HEADED GENIUS, A TREE OF LIFE,.
Ca. 1400 - 1200 BC.
A reddish stone cylinder seal, drilled longitudinally and engraved with a two-winged bird-headed genius picking fruit from a tree of life. Two columns of cuneiform script are in the exergue.
Size: 35mm x 15mm; Weight: 16g
Provenance: Private London collection of an Ancient Art dealer; formerly in a central London family collection, 1990s; reportedly examined by Wilfrid George Lambert in the late 1980s–early 1990s; ex UK art market, 1970s–early 1980s.
