Description
HELLENISTIC GOLD EARRING WITH EROS AND GARNET.
Ca. 200 BC.
A gold earring with a tapering hoop, one end narrowing to a point and the other finished with a standing winged Eros. The nude figure stands with his hands on his hips, with a quiver strap crossing the chest diagonally. Above the head is a rosette plaque with a garnet cabochon.

Provenance: Private London collection; previously part of a distinguished New York private collection, assembled between 1975 and 1995. The collection was authenticated in the early 1990s by Dr. Jack Ogden and Barbara Deppert Lippitz, leading specialists in ancient jewellery. A significant number of objects from this collection were also published in a professional catalogue.
