COLLECTION OF HELLENISTIC GOLD EARRINGS WITH EROS AND GARNETS. Ca. 200 - 100 BC. A collection of three gold earrings, each with a tapering hoop, one end narrowing to a point, and the other finished with a standing winged Eros. The nude figures stand with their hands on their hips beneath garnet mounts above the head. For similar see: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Object Number: 22.139.48, .49. Size: 16-20mm x 5-7mm; Weight: 5.7g Provenance: Private London collection; previously part of a distinguished New York private collection, assembled between 1975 and 1995. The collection was authenticated in the early 1990s by Dr. Jack Ogden and Barbara Deppert Lippitz, leading specialists in ancient jewellery. A significant number of objects from this collection were also published in a professional catalogue.
