Description
SCYTHIAN REPOUSSE GOLD PLAQUE WITH A LION ATTACKING A DEER.
Ca. 600 - 400 BC.
A rectangular repousse gold plaque with a recessed central field enclosed within a raised border of punched notches and four perforations at the corners for attachment. The field is decorated with a lion advancing to the left over a fallen deer, its forepaw pressed against the deer's body and its jaws set at the neck.

Size: 37mm x 29mm; Weight: 1.2g
Provenance: Private London collection; previously part of a distinguished New York private collection, assembled between 1975 and 1995. The collection was authenticated in the early 1990s by Dr. Jack Ogden and Barbara Deppert Lippitz, leading specialists in ancient jewellery. A significant number of objects from this collection were also published in a professional catalogue.
