COLLECTION OF ROMAN GOLD EARRINGS WITH GLASS BEADS. Ca. AD 1 - 300. A collection of four gold earrings, including, from left to right: a matched pair of hoop earrings with tapering hoops fastened by hooked terminals bound with coils, each suspending a short stem with a glass bead and a small knot below; and a matched pair of crescent-shaped earrings formed from sheet gold, each with a hoop above. For similar see: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Object Number: 74.51.3787. Size: 17-25mm x 11-13mm; Weight: 7.4g Provenance: Private London collection; previously part of a distinguished New York private collection, assembled between 1975 and 1995. The collection was authenticated in the early 1990s by Dr. Jack Ogden and Barbara Deppert Lippitz, leading specialists in ancient jewellery. A significant number of objects from this collection were also published in a professional catalogue. This item has been checked against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
