Description
ROMAN AGATE CAMEO OF MAN IN GOLD PENDANT. Ca. AD 1 - 300. An agate cameo carved with a head, turned slightly to the left, with curly hair, a beard, and a prominent nose. The stone is set in a circular gold pendant with a plain collar and a scalloped outer border cut with radiating notches. A ribbed suspension loop rises above, and the reverse is closed with a flat backplate. For similar see: The British Museum, Museum number 1756,0101.667. Size: 26mm x 21mm; Weight: 5g Provenance: Private London collection; acquired in France (early 2000s); previously in a Swiss private collection formed during the 1980s–1990s. This item has been checked against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
