LATE ROMAN GOLD RING WITH RED GARNET INTAGLIO OF FORTUNA. Ca. AD 100 - 300. A gold hollow ring with a tapering hoop and an oval bezel set with a convex red garnet intaglio engraved with Fortuna standing in three-quarter view, holding a cornucopia in her right hand and a rudder in her left hand, on a groundline. Size: D:16.31mm / US: 5 3/4 / UK: L; Weight: 5.6g Provenance: Private London collection; previously part of a distinguished New York private collection, assembled between 1975 and 1995. The collection was authenticated in the early 1990s by Dr. Jack Ogden and Barbara Deppert Lippitz, leading specialists in ancient jewellery. A significant number of objects from this collection were also published in a professional catalogue. This item has been checked against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
