EASTERN ROMAN MATCHED PAIR OF GOLD EARRINGS WITH OPENWORK CONICAL DROPS.
Ca. AD 1 - 300.
A matched pair of gold earrings, each with a plain hoop fastened by a hooked terminal with an applied boss, suspending an openwork conical drop formed from joined wire circles with applied granules and set between plain collars. Three short chains hang below, each finished with a small D-shaped pendant.
Size: 33-35mm x 11-12mm; Weight: 3.1g
Provenance: Private London collection; previously part of a distinguished New York private collection, assembled between 1975 and 1995. The collection was authenticated in the early 1990s by Dr. Jack Ogden and Barbara Deppert Lippitz, leading specialists in ancient jewellery. A significant number of objects from this collection were also published in a professional catalogue.
