ROMAN CARNELIAN INTAGLIO OF WINGED VICTORY BEFORE AN ALTAR IN GOLD RING. Ca. AD 300. A carnelian intaglio engraved with winged Victory standing before an altar, extending a wreath in her left hand and holding a palm branch in her right, all on a groundline, mounted in a possibly later gold ring with an oval bezel framed by twisted wire and a beaded border, and an openwork braided hoop with scroll shoulders decorated with pellets. Size: D:19.76mm / US: 10 / UK: T 1/2; Weight: 8g Provenance: From a London private collection; earlier part of a UK ancient art collection formed in the 1990s.
