Description
BYZANTINE SILVER ENKOLPION.
Ca. AD 900 - 1100. A silver enkolpion cross pendant with a large suspension loop above a hinged fitting. The obverse is engraved with a haloed standing figure with arms outstretched, wearing a long robe decorated with vertical bands of interlace, with the letters MP XC above. The reverse is engraved with a cross centred on a rosette within a circular border, with radiating linear motifs and oval devices at the terminals.
