VIKING SILVER ROPEWORK MEDALLION. Ca. AD 700 - 900. A silver medallion with the obverse decorated with ropework arranged around a central granulated lozenge, with further pellets along the outer twisted wire border and a rolled suspension loop at the apex. Size: 36mm x 31mm; Weight: 5.5g Provenance: Private London collection; formerly in Austrian private collection 1980s-early 1990s The XRF analyses performed demonstrate that the compositional profile of the metal is consistent with, and technically compatible with, documented metallic compositions of objects from the attributed historical period, thereby providing substantial material support for the object’s authenticity.
