BYZANTINE GOLD AND LAPIS LAZULI PENDANT WITH CHI-RHO IN LAUREL CROWN. Ca. AD 700 - 900. A gold pendant of rectangular form, set with a lapis lazuli plaque carved with a Chi-Rho Christogram enclosed within a laurel wreath, with alpha and omega in the field. The frame is plain and broad, with a filigree rosette at the centre of each side. Two suspension loops are attached to the reverse. For similar see: The British Museum, Museum number EA679. Size: 27mm x 25mm; Weight: 10g Provenance: From a private London collection; purchased in Munich, Germany, in the 1990s. This item has been checked against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
