Description
EGYPTIAN GLAZED STEATITE SCARAB WITH CARTOUCHE OF THUTMOSE III IN SILVER SWIVEL RING.
New Kingdom, Ca. 1481 - 1425 BC. A pale green glazed steatite scarab with a semi-circular head, a broad thorax, and divided wing cases. The underside is engraved with the throne name cartouche of Thutmose III, Menkheperra, with an ostrich feather and a sun disc at the side, and framed by neb baskets above and below. Set in a possibly later silver swivel ring with a plain hoop and a securing pin. Size: D:21.79mm / US: 12 1/2 / UK: Z; Weight: 11g Provenance: From a private UK collection; London art market acquisition; earlier in an Oxford private collection dating to the 1990s.
