EGYPTIAN STEATITE HEDGEHOG WITH EPITHET OF THUTMOSE III IN SILVER SWIVEL RING. New Kingdom, Ca. 1550 - 1069 BC. A steatite stylised hedgehog. The flat base is inscribed with the epithet of the pharaoh Thutmose III "Image of Amun-Ra". Set in a possibly later silver swivel ring with a plain hoop. Royal names, or epithets referring to the king, were believed to possess strong protective power, much like the names and images of the gods.
