GREEK GOLD PLAQUE WITH MYTHOLOGICAL SUBJECT. Ca. 800 - 600 BC. A rectangular gold plaque with a rolled upper edge and rounded lower corners. The field is decorated in repousse with a mythological figure within a narrow border, with bosses at the corners. For similar see: W. Seipel, Efes Artemisionou, Cat. 89. Size: 32mm x 14mm; Weight: 1.8g Provenance: Private London collection; previously part of a distinguished New York private collection, assembled between 1975 and 1995. The collection was authenticated in the early 1990s by Dr. Jack Ogden and Barbara Deppert Lippitz, leading specialists in ancient jewellery. A significant number of objects from this collection were also published in a professional catalogue.
